Library: Course Resources (Reserves)


The Library has introduced a new and much improved system that makes it easier to build a resource list for your course and provides direct access for students. Access to this system can be added to the NavBar, the Homepage and the Content Tool of your Brightspace course. Use any one of the list of instructions below in order to add this option to your Brightspace course site.

 

Course Resources (Reserves) in the Navigation Bar (NavBar)

Course Resources (Reserves) can be added to the NavBar by following these simple steps:

  1. Go to Course Admin;
  2. Select Navigation and Themes (under Site Setup);
  3. In the Active NavBar dropbox, select Course Resources (Reserves) and then Apply.

The Navbar will now be updated to include Course Resources (Reserves).   You will find this in the content menu of your course.

 

Course Resources (Reserves) as a Widget on the Course Resources Homepage

Course Resources (Reserves) can be also be added to your course home page as a widget. To do this you will need to make the ‘Course Resources Home Page’ Active. This can be done by following these steps:

  1. Go to Course Admin;
  2. Select Homepages (under Site Setup);
  3. In the Active Homepage dropdown, choose Course Resources Home Page and then Apply.

Your course homepage will be updated to include the Course Resources (Reserves) widget.

 

Course Resources (Reserves) as a Widget in a Custom Homepage

Course Resources (Reserves) can be also be added to your course home page as a widget so students can access any course readings and other resources you add through this central location. To do this you will add the widget to your custom homepage. This can be done by following these steps:

  1. Go to Course Admin;
  2. Select Homepages (under Site Setup);
  3. Edit your custom homepage;
  4. Select Add Widgets in the homepage layout area;
  5. Check Course Resources (Reserves) and select Add;
  6. Finally Save and Close

The Course Resources (Reserves) widget is now added to your custom homepage.

 

Course Resources (Reserves) in Course Content

Course Resources (Reserves) can be added to the Content tool by following these steps:

  1. Go to Content tool;
  2. Select module (If there are no modules, you will need to create one);
  3. Select Existing Activities the External Learning Tools;
  4. In the Add Activity window, select Course Resources (Reserves).

The Course Resources (Reserves) tool is now added to the module.  Selecting the content Item will launch you into the tool.
