Reusing an Existing H5P Resource

Reusing a Resource

If you choose to reuse a resource you are essentially creating a copy of it and making it your own (don’t forget to credit the owner). This allows you to make changes to the resource. When you embed your version of the resource in your course, students will see changes that you make to the new resource; they will not see changes that the owner makes to the original resource.

There are two scenarios for reusing an object:

  1. You have rights to edit the resource (this may be the case if you are a co-instructor for a course):
    1. Open the resource, click “Reuse” on the resource and then click “Copy content” or click edit settings on the resource and in the Editor section click “Copy”.
    2. Open an area in “My resources”, click “Add an activity or resource” and then click paste. You can edit the resource here, making a new version. Be sure to rename it and use the new embed code in your course.
  2. You do not have rights to edit another user’s resource:
    1. Open the resource, click “Reuse” on the resource and then download (export) the h5p file.
    2. Open an area in “My resources”, click “Add an activity or resource” and then click upload. You can edit the resource here, making a new version.

Reuse a Resource From “All resources”

In addition to copying or reusing resources that are in My resources, you can reuse another user’s object.

  1. Go to Dashboard and click “All resources”
  2. Open the object that you would like to reuse
  3. Click “Reuse”
  4. Click “Download as an .h5p file” – the file will be downloaded to your computer
  5. CRITICAL STEP: click the cog icon in the top right corner and click “Turn Editing on”.
  6. Select “H5P interactive content” and click “Add”
  7. In the Editor area, select “Upload”
  8. Locate the .h5p file that you want to use and click “Upload a file”
  9. Click “Use”
  10. Make the required changes
  11. Click “Save and return to course”

Note: You can also reuse a resource that exits on h5p.org or another website outside of our H5P Resources Environment that supports H5P resources. Follow the steps above starting with step 2.
