Mending and Making: Community Engagement Perspective in Practice (CITL Instructor Series)

May 16, 2023 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The presenter for this session is Ivan J White, Mi’kmaw from Bay St. George, Indigenous Education Specialist with Memorial University.

In this conversation, Ivan J White, Mi’kmaw from Flat Bay and Indigenous Education Specialist with Memorial University will speak to Mending and Making in the context of working with community. We make and mend relationships by telling our stories. This recognizes that both academics and community members have their own truth of experience and motivations when working together. Together, these shared stories can add to the creation of a deeper learning experience for students and be mutually beneficial for the instructor and community.

From Ivan J’s perspective we can all share in creating a better world through understanding and authentic practice of the following two principles: Msit No’kmaq (all my relations) helps to contextualize that everything is connected, with this connection being unbreakable, and Etuaptmumk (two-eyed seeing) to give us a path to work together for the mutual benefit of all.

The goal of this conversation is to share the two concepts in an authentic way so to allow participants to start the journey of reflection on how to engage community through inclusion, collaboration and sharing.

This is an online session and it will be recorded. You can join the session 10 minutes before the start time. It is recommended that you attend this session using one of the following internet browsers:  ChromeMicrosoft Edge (Chromium) or Firefox.
