Social Media Use in the Classroom (CITL Instructor Series)
June 13, 2023 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
The presenters for this session are Adrienne Peters, PhD (she/her), Assistant Professor, Undergraduate Director of Criminology, Department of Sociology; and Laura Squires (M.A.), Project Coordinator at fasdNL.
Limited research suggests that social media is a tool that can positively impact student engagement in the online classroom, which is especially relevant in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic and learning formats transitioning online. Dr. Adrienne Peters and Laura Squires explore how social media tools could provide a platform and an opportunity for engagement between students and the instructor outside of the traditional, formal classroom setting.
In this session, Dr. Peters and Ms. Squires will explain how they integrated twitter into their teaching as a course evaluation requirement and share findings and experiences when using the tool to improve interaction, engagement and connectedness. You can read their full article here.
This is an online session and it will be recorded. You can join the session 10 minutes before the start time. It is recommended that you attend this session using one of the following internet browsers: Chrome, Microsoft Edge (Chromium) or Firefox.
