Getting Started
Brightspace is Memorial University’s learning management system. It is a web-based platform that enables instructors and students to access course materials from any device, at any time, and from any location. Brightspace provides a convenient, centralized space with a wide range of tools to support the delivery and facilitation of courses regardless of the delivery mode.
There are several ways to access Brightspace:
- Go directly to online.mun.ca.
- Go to Memorial’s homepage, click Log In in the top right corner and select Brightspace.
- Log in to my.mun.ca, go to the Employees tab at the top of the page, and use the Brightspace Login widget.
To log in to Brightspace, use your MUN login ID and password – the same password you use to login to my.mun or to access your @mun email.
Brightspace for Instructors
A Brightspace course site (or shell) is automatically created for every course at Memorial. Once an instructor is assigned to teach a course and is listed in Memorial’s student registration system (Banner), they are automatically enrolled in the corresponding Brightspace course.
If you are teaching more than one section of a course or a cross-listed course, you may choose to combine them into a single Brightspace site, making it easier to manage course content and communications. Learn more in our Combining Course Sections resource.
Note
If you would like to have a Brightspace site for testing and course development, please contact the CITL Support Centre. A development site allows you to build and test course content before copying it into your regular course site.
Brightspace for Students
Students are automatically added to a course site based on their registration status in Banner. If a student drops a course, they are automatically removed from that Brightspace course (no action is required by the instructor).
Brightspace for Teaching Assistants
Teaching assistants (TAs) can easily get access to a course in Brightspace. Instructors can use the Course Site Enrollment Tool to add a TA to their Brightspace course. Alternatively, instructors can submit a request to the CITL Support Centre.
Note
Teaching Assistants have access to the Classlist, Grades, Quizzes and the Assignments tool. However, they cannot upload content. For information on different roles in Brightspace and privileges associated with them, please visit this resource.
Brightspace Support
