Essay Films: an alternative assessment approach (CITL Instructor Series)
The presenters for this session are Dr. Alec Brookes, Associate Professor, Gender Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Paul Hayward, Production Technologist/ Editor, CITL.
Dr. Alex Brookes was seeking an alternative non-paper based assignment and found an experience that was rewarding for students and himself. To implement a “Film Essay” in his undergrad Gender Studies course, Dr. Brookes engaged Paul Hayward from CITL’s media services team for support. Paul facilitated a basic video editing presentation for the class, while Dr. Brookes established the assignment requirements and provided academic support. Through this collaboration they watched students demonstrate their learning in the most creative of ways.
In this session, Dr. Brookes and Paul Hayward will highlight their key considerations when implementing this innovative assignment and share their experiences in hopes of inspiring other faculty to try something similar.
This is a hybrid session (offered online and in-person) and it will be recorded.
