Online Exam Supervision with ProctorU

ProctorU is Memorial University’s approved online proctoring service that is used to supervise invigilated term tests, midterms, and final exams in some online courses within Brightspace. The Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is responsible for the administration of online proctoring using ProctorU.

Online proctoring with ProctorU allows the supervisor to view the student, verify their identity, and monitor their surroundings, similar to exams that are supervised by an instructor or other invigilator in person. This helps to ensure academic integrity for exams that are delivered online.

Instructors for online courses may choose whether to offer online proctoring for their invigilated exams. If an instructor chooses to offer online proctoring in their course, a student’s eligibility to use this option is determined by where they reside; students who reside within 80km of St. John’s or Grenfell campus are currently not eligible to use online proctoring. Students who are not eligible, or who choose not to use online proctoring, will write their invigilated exams on paper with an in-person supervisor.
