Online Rooms

While Online Rooms are typically used for synchronous class meetings (see our Online Rooms resource under Communication), the tool can also be used to record lectures, which can then be easily shared with students in Brightspace. Instructors can use Online Rooms to do one or both of the following:

  • Record live lectures during scheduled class time, with students present in the Online Rooms session.
  • Record lectures outside the scheduled class time, with no students present in the session.

Pros:

  • Videos created and shared in Brightspace – no need for external tools
  • Screen, audio, and webcam can be shared easily
  • Generates a URL link for easy sharing

Cons:

  • Cannot automatically generate closed captioning
  • Cannot easily edit the resulting video

The instructions below explain how you can set up recording sessions in Online Rooms without inviting the students and how to share the resulting recordings in your Brightspace courses.

1. Schedule Online Rooms Session

2. Launch Session and Record Lecture

3. Preview and Share Recording in Brightspace
