Despite these problems, it can be difficult for course instructors to support students\u2019 development into strong critical readers because, unlike problems with writing, we do not often \u201csee\u201d problems with reading.<\/p>\n<p>This session will introduce course instructors to social annotation, a process whereby students collaboratively annotate or \u201cmark up\u201d assigned readings. In the session, Melanie will describe how she implemented social annotation into her first-year critical reading and writing (CRW) course.
