style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Announcements<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The Announcements&nbsp;tool in Brightspace allows instructors and TAs to create course announcements that help communicate course updates, changes, and new information to your students quickly and effectively. Since <strong>Course Home<\/strong> is typically the first page students see when they access their courses in Brightspace, the Announcements area is a good place for displaying important information. NOTE: Students are not able to post announcements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide to use announcements to communicate with students, you may wish to add a note to that effect in your course syllabus. Also, remind students to subscribe to notifications in Brightspace or in their Brightspace Pulse app. <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/resourcesforstudents\/desire2learn\/my-home\/notifications-for-class-cancelation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Information for students is available here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sample Uses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Announcements are a helpful tool to share the following information with students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Welcoming to the course and setting expectations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Posting course updates such as schedule changes, class cancellations, reminders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing weekly overviews<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connecting students to specific resources within the course using links.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group note-container has-base-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Note<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Communication class cancellations using Announcements does not replace any existing departmental regulations around the reporting of cancellations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating Announcements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your Brightspace course, click the down arrow next to the word <strong>Announcements<\/strong> and select <strong>New Announcements Item<\/strong> from the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a clear headline, such as \u201cClass cancelled for January 19\u201d and some <em>content <\/em>for the message such as \u201cClass is cancelled for January 19, 2017, due to inclement weather.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Publish<\/strong> at the bottom of the page to save the announcement. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This announcement will appear in your Brightspace site at the top of your Announcements widget. For students with notifications configured, it will automatically send notifications to their email and\/or phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following short videos introduces some basic features of the Announcements tool.
