class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grading Discussions<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d9f0fe\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: Only discussion <strong><em>topics <\/em><\/strong>can be graded. Discussion forums <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">cannot<\/span> be graded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students&#8217; discussion posts can only be graded if a topic has been set up as &#8216;gradable&#8217;. For instructions on configuring a topic, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/discussions-creating-a-topic\/\">Create a Topic<\/a> page in this resource. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussions in Brightspace can be evaluated in two different ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can <strong>grade by topic<\/strong>, where you review all comments\/replies a student has posted in a topic, and give them an overall grade for their contribution. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can <strong>grade individual posts<\/strong> within a topic, and let Brightspace calculate each student&#8217;s overall grade based on the calculation method you had selected when configuring the topic.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-331390\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>1. Thus, the student would receive their grade before other students in the class. <br><br>It is recommended that you select <strong>Save Draft<\/strong> instead &#8211; this option saves the grade and feedback, but does not make it visible to the student.
