Quizzes tool in Brightspace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to your course site and click <strong>Assessment<\/strong> in the course navbar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Quizzes<\/strong> from the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next page, click <strong>&#8216;New Quiz&#8217;<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default Quiz Name<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-277910\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Give your quiz a title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to create a corresponding grade item in the Brightspace grade book, clicking <strong>Save<\/strong> at the bottom of the window will automatically create a grade item with the same name as the quiz.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-277911\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; 2. <\/strong><strong>Grade Out Of &amp; Link to the Grade Book<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-277911\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The default setting for new quizzes is \u2018<strong>Not in Grade Book<\/strong>\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default border\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2022\/10\/newquiz-pic18.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27853\" width=\"525\" height=\"107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2022\/10\/newquiz-pic18.png 525w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2022\/10\/newquiz-pic18-300x61.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image: Default grade setting in a quiz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Consider the two scenarios below and proceed accordingly:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the quiz is <strong><em>not <\/em><\/strong>a part of your course evaluation, and you do <strong><em>not <\/em><\/strong>want to link it to the grade book (e.g., it is only a practice quiz), leave the \u2018<strong>Not in Grade Book<\/strong>\u2019 setting in place. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d9f0fe\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: If you leave \u2018<strong>Not in Grade Book<\/strong>\u2019 selected, the &#8216;<strong>Grade Out Of<\/strong>&#8216; box will stay &#8216;locked&#8217;, i.e. you will not be able to enter the point value for the quiz manually. The number will change automatically once you start adding questions to the quiz, and it will reflect the total number of points available to score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>If the quiz <strong><em>is <\/em><\/strong>part of your course evaluation, and you <strong><em>do <\/em><\/strong>want to link it to the grade book for automatic grade transfer, click the downward arrow next to \u2018<strong>Not in Grade Book<\/strong>\u2019. In the window that pops up, select &#8216;<strong>Link to an existing grade item<\/strong>&#8216; and choose the grade item to which you want to link the quiz from the dropdown menu. Selecting this option will prompt you to enter the point value for the quiz in the &#8216;<strong>Grade Out Of<\/strong>&#8216; field. Due date<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-277912\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>You can set a <strong>Due Date<\/strong> for your quiz, i.e. the date and time when you expect students to complete the quiz. The <strong>Due Date<\/strong> will be visible in the course calendar in Brightspace. After that date, students will still be able to access and complete the quiz, but their submissions will be flagged as late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e6f7e8\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <strong>Due Date<\/strong> is for information purposes only. Until then, students can see the <strong>Start Date<\/strong> in the course calendar, but cannot begin the quiz.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>End Date (and Time)<\/strong> &#8211; This setting controls when the <strong><em>\u2018Start Quiz!\u2019<\/em><\/strong> button should become unavailable to students. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d9f0fe\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: The <strong>Start <\/strong>and <strong>End Dates<\/strong> set for a quiz are unrelated to the amount of time students have to complete the quiz. These dates only control the time interval in which students can <em><strong>begin <\/strong><\/em>the quiz. If a student starts the quiz one minute before the <strong>End Date<\/strong>\/<strong>Time<\/strong>, they will still have the entire time allotted for the quiz in the <strong>Timing &amp; Display<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e7f5d7\">Consider <strong><em>Due Date<\/em><\/strong>, <em><strong>Start <\/strong>and <\/em><strong><em>End<\/em> <em>Dates<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong><em>Timing <\/em><\/strong>carefully. For example, if you want to set up a quiz for a typical 50-minute lecture period, you could choose:<br><br><strong>Due Date: <\/strong>2:50 PM (quizzes submitted after 2:50 PM will be submitted but flagged as late)<br><strong>Start Date<\/strong>: 2:00 PM (students can start the quiz any time between 2:00 PM and 2:50 PM)<br><strong>End Date<\/strong>: 2:10 PM (after 2:10 PM students will not be able to start the quiz)<br><strong>Enforced time limit<\/strong>: 50 minutes (each student will have 50 minutes to complete the quiz, regardless of then they started)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Release Conditions <\/strong>&#8211; For information on release conditions, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/community.d2l.com\/brightspace\/kb\/articles\/3432-about-release-conditions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this Brightspace resource<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/brightspace-how-tos\/assessment\/using-quizzes-tool\/grant-special-access\/\">Special Access<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 You can adjust quiz configurations for students with accommodation requests or those who require an alternate submission date\/time. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Password<\/strong> &#8211; You can set a password for the quiz as an additional security measure. If this is a practice quiz, you may wish give students unlimited time to complete it. Here, you can choose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>whether the quiz should be <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/quizzes-synchronous-quizzes\/\">synchronous <\/a>or asynchronous, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what should happen to the quiz when a student reaches the set time limit. The options are:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li><em>Automatically submit the quiz attempt <\/em>(selected by default) &#8211; When a student reaches the time limit, the quiz will be submitted automatically. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Flag as &#8220;exceeded time limit&#8221; and allow the learner to continue working<\/em> &#8211; Students can continue working on the quiz after reaching the time limit, but their submissions will be marked as late. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Do nothing: the time limit is not enforced<\/em> &#8211; NOTE: This applies only to the auto-graded portion of the quiz, not to questions that need to be graded manually such as &#8216;Written Response&#8217;. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Synchronize to grade book on publish<\/strong> &#8211; With this option selected, any changes or updates to the quiz score will be automatically updated in the grade book. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>When published, display to learners<\/strong> &#8211; you can customize what the students will be able to see once the quiz results are published (if they can view scores per attempt, correct\/incorrect questions, correct\/incorrect answers etc.) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also link the quiz to your <strong>Learning Objectives<\/strong>.
