class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attendance Tool<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Attendance Tool <\/strong>enables instructors to create registers and track students&#8217; attendance in lectures, seminars, and other activities in the course. More than one register can be created in each course (e.g., one for lectures and another one for labs), and each register can be customized to suit your needs. Each register you create is a grouping of meetings for which you plan to track attendance. For example, if you want to track attendance in weekly labs, you may create a register named <em>Weekly Labs<\/em>. If you also plan to track attendance in lectures, you may create an additional register named <em>Lecture Attendance<\/em>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"false\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-23192\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; How do I create a register?<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-23192\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>To create a register, follow the steps below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Click on <strong>Course Admin<\/strong> on the navbar.<\/li><li>In the <em>Learner Management<\/em> section, select <strong>Attendance<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Click on <strong>New Register<\/strong>. <\/li><li>Under <em>Properties<\/em>, enter a <strong>Name <\/strong>of your new register (e.g., <em>ENG3050 Attendance<\/em>) and optionally a <strong>Description<\/strong>. <\/li><li>Under <em>Attendance Scheme<\/em>, select the <strong>System Scheme<\/strong> (with <em>Present <\/em>= 100% and <em>Absent <\/em>= 0% as the only options) or another scheme that you have previously created (see <em>How do I create my own attendance scheme?<\/em> in this resource). <\/li><li>If you wish, you can enter a <strong>Cause for Concern <\/strong>value &#8211; the minimum attendance requirement for the course (e.g. 75%). <\/li><li>Under <strong>Visibility<\/strong>, check <em>Allow users to view this attendance register<\/em> if you want to give students access to their own attendance data in this register. <\/li><li>Under <em>Users<\/em>, you can choose to include all students in the course or specific groups of students. <\/li><li>Under <em>Sessions<\/em>, add <strong>Session Names<\/strong> and optionally <strong>Session Descriptions<\/strong> (e.g. <em>Lecture 1, Lecture 2<\/em>, etc.). In a session where you want to take attendance, do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Click on <strong>Course Admin<\/strong> on the navbar.<\/li><li>In the <em>Learner Management<\/em> section, select <strong>Attendance<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Locate the attendance register you want to use and click on its name. <\/li><li>On the <em>Attendance Data<\/em> page that opens, locate the session for which you want to take attendance. The default scheme in Brightspace (named <strong>System Scheme<\/strong>) is P (100%) for present and A (0%) for absent. Click on it. <\/li><li>Click on <strong>New Scheme<\/strong>. <\/li><li>Give your new scheme a name.<\/li><li>Enter the <strong>Symbols<\/strong> you would like to appear when entering attendance data for each attendance status (e.g., <strong>L <\/strong>for late). <\/li><li>Enter the <strong>Status Full Name<\/strong> for each attendance status (e.g., <strong>Late<\/strong>).<\/li><li>Enter the <strong>Assigned %<\/strong> for each status (e.g., <strong>75<\/strong> for late, <strong>100<\/strong> for present, etc.).  <\/li><li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. If a student&#8217;s attendance drops below that percentage, the student will be flagged on the<em> Attendance Data <\/em>page. You can set the cause for concern to a desired value by following the steps below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Click on <strong>Course Admin<\/strong> on the navbar.<\/li><li>In the <em>Learner Management<\/em> section, select <strong>Attendance<\/strong>.<\/li><li>On the&nbsp;<strong>Attendance Registers<\/strong>&nbsp;page, click on <strong>New Register&nbsp;<\/strong>and follow the steps listed in <em>What is an attendance register? <\/em>above.<\/li><li>If you have previously created a register, locate it on the list of <strong>Attendance Registers<\/strong>. Click the down arrow next to it, and select <strong>Edit Register<\/strong>.<\/li><li>On the page that opens, scroll down to&nbsp;<strong>Cause for Concern<\/strong>&nbsp;field and enter a percentage that indicates your minimum attendance requirement (e.g. 75%).<\/li><li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"false\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-23197\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; Can I delete sessions, registers or schemes?<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-23197\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Yes. You can modify or delete any session, register, or scheme that you created. Note, however, that <strong>deleting a session, register, or scheme also clears all associated attendance data<\/strong>. Make sure that you no longer need the data before deleting any component of the Attendance Tool. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"false\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-23198\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; Can attendance be linked to a grade book item?<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-23198\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>No. Attendance recorded in the Attendance Tool cannot be linked to a grade item.
