Click the down arrow next to it and select <strong>Edit Folder<\/strong> (alternatively, you can click the folder\u2019s name, and then click <strong>Edit Folder<\/strong> on the new page). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default border padding\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"397\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/07\/New-assignment-15-1024x397.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/07\/New-assignment-15-1024x397.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/07\/New-assignment-15-300x116.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/07\/New-assignment-15-768x298.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/07\/New-assignment-15.png 1188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Step 4<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assignment Settings: The Layout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The assignment interface has 3 areas (scroll down the page for details). <strong>The main area <\/strong>has space for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The assignment name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grading options<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Due date<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instructions for the assignment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attachment options, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buttons to add or record audio or video.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At the bottom <\/strong>you can find:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Save &amp; Close<\/em>, <em>Save<\/em>, and <em>Cancel<\/em> buttons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A toggle to control the visibility of the assignment (note that the default setting is &#8216;Visible&#8217;).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To the right<\/strong>, there are 3 expandable menu boxes (widgets) for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"9\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Availability dates &amp; conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submission &amp; completion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluation &amp; feedback<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default border padding\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"595\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/10\/New-assignment-21-1024x595.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22251\" style=\"width:829px;height:482px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/10\/New-assignment-21-1024x595.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/10\/New-assignment-21-300x174.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/10\/New-assignment-21-768x446.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/files\/2021\/10\/New-assignment-21.png 1153w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assignment Options: Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on each of the options below for more details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-191910\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; Grading options<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-191910\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>These options can be accessed in area \u201c2\u201d identified in the Layout image above. The default grading option for assignments is \u2018Ungraded\u2019. You can choose to leave it ungraded, or you can assign a grade to it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to assign a grade to an assignment, start by entering the point value for the assignment in the <strong>Grade Out Of<\/strong> box (notice that doing so brings up more grading options to the right).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When choosing your options, we suggest that you look at the 4 scenarios below regarding your <strong>Grades tool<\/strong> (also known as the grade book) and identify the one that applies to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Your grade book is not yet set up. You want to create an assignment and a grade item for it in the grade book, and link the two<\/em>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter the point value for the assignment in the <strong>Grade Out Of<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not change the default grade setting &#8211; <strong>In Gradebook<\/strong>. This setting indicates that your assignment will be added to the grade book once you click <strong>Save<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. You have just created an assignment, a grade item with the same name (you can change the name of the grade item in the grade book if you wish), and a link between the two.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Your grade book is not yet set up. You want to create an assignment, but you do NOT want to create a grade item for it in the grade book. <\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter the point value for the assignment in the <strong><strong>Grade <\/strong>Out Of<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>In Gradebook<\/strong> to open a dropdown menu and select <strong>Not in Gradebook<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. You have just created an assignment but no new grade item in the grade book.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Your grade book is already set up. You want to create an assignment and link it to an existing grade book<\/em><em>item<\/em>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter the point value for the assignment in the <strong><strong>Grade <\/strong>Out Of<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>In Gradebook<\/strong> to open a dropdown menu, and select <strong>Edit or Link to Existing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the pop-up window, select <strong>Link to an existing grade item<\/strong> radio button. Choose the item to which you want to link the assignment and click <strong>OK<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the assignment page, click <strong>Save<\/strong>. You have just created an assignment, and linked it to an existing item in the grade book. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Your grade book is already set up. You want to create an assignment but you do NOT want to link it to an existing item in the grade book<\/em>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter the point value for the assignment in the <strong><strong>Grade <\/strong>Out Of<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>In Gradebook<\/strong> to open a dropdown menu, and select <strong>Not In Gradebook<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. You have created an assignment, but did not link it to the grade book.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d9f0fe\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> If you remove a link between an assignment and a grade item and then link them again, the original link will not be restored. Instead, a brand new grade item will be created in the grade book and the assignment will be linked to that new item. In this situation, you should check your grade book to be sure it correctly reflects your grading scheme.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-191911\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; Due date<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-191911\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Select <strong>Due Date<\/strong> for the assignment so that students can see it in the Brightspace Calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d9f0fe\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> If you set a <strong>Due Date<\/strong>, students will continue to be able to submit their assignments after that date, but those assignments will be flagged as late. Hover your cursor over the attachment options to see what each one attaches. Options include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recording up to 1.5 minutes of audio within Brightspace OR uploading an audio clip from your computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record up to 30 minutes of video in Brightspace OR uploading a clip from your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-191914\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; Availability Dates and Conditions<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-191914\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>In this widget you can set:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Start date<\/strong> \u2013 the day and time the assignment folder becomes available for students to begin submitting their work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>End date<\/strong> \u2013 the day and time the assignment folder becomes unavailable and students can no longer make submissions. <strong>Note<\/strong>: The <strong>End Date<\/strong> will be visible in the Brightspace calendar but not the <strong>Start Date<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Release Conditions <\/strong>(click <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/documentation.brightspace.com\/EN\/le\/release_conditions\/instructor\/release_conditions_intro.htm\" target=\"_blank\">here <\/a>for more information).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/brightspace-how-tos\/assessment\/using-quizzes-tool\/grant-special-access\/\">Special Access<\/a><\/strong>\u2013 if one or more students in your course requires an alternate submission date for the assignment. &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-191915\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt; Submission &amp; Completion<\/strong><\/h4><div id=\"ac-191915\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>In this widget you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>set the assignment to be individual or group-based<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>add the assignment to a category if applicable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>choose submission type (<em>File<\/em>, <em>Text<\/em>, <em>On Paper<\/em>, or <em>Observed in Person<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>decide on the number of files allowed per submission (1 or more)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>determine the file types\/extensions you want students to upload<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>decide whether to keep all or only one submission in the folder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>add an email address if you want to be notified when a new submission is made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-191916\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>&gt;
