The software then creates a video file (available formats are MP4, AVI, FLV, or GIF), which can be uploaded to a video streaming service and then embedded into your Brightspace course site. ScreenPal also includes easy-to-use annotation and editing tools. Some benefits of ScreenPal include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Easy, intuitive interface.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mistakes can be edited out \u2014 no need to re-record.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video segments can be easily cut out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free for students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>ScreenPal is a free software, but a paid version offering advanced tools is also available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Memorial has purchased an educational ScreenPal license, and instructors can can gain access to it by request. The resources in this category will introduce you to the features of ScreenPal available under Memorial&#8217;s license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructional Use of ScreenPal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ScreenPal videos can be used in teaching for a wide variety of purposes. Below are some possible uses.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Present New Content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Record and post <strong>online lectures<\/strong> &#8211; open the technology of your choice (PPTs, webpages, spread sheets, images, videos etc.) on your computer screen and record it while you narrate, annotate, highlight, or draw.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create <strong>\u2018how-to\u2019 videos<\/strong> of either on-screen or real-life procedures (e.g., solving equations, explaining navigation of a website, drawing chemical bonds, showing how to use an application or software, conducting a lab procedure).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Customize content<\/strong> to include the exact information you want.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create captions<\/strong> for hearing-impaired students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Preview or Review Material<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a short <strong>introductory overview<\/strong> of a unit, module, lesson.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record <strong>recap of main points<\/strong> before homework and tests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Create Remedial Tutorials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you identify a problem several students have (e.g., use of citations), create <strong>a remedial video<\/strong> for the whole class.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FAQ videos<\/strong> \u2013 collect questions from students and create a video with all the answers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Supplement Feedback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide <strong>individualized video feedback<\/strong> on assignments &#8211; display students\u2019 work on the screen and annotate, highlight, correct while you discuss it. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After a test\/exam, record an <strong>overview of correct answers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Assess Learning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Have students use ScreenPal to record:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>presentations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>speeches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reflections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>answers to discussion questions (alternative to the discussion forum)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>oral output in foreign language classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>digital stories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using ScreenPal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screenpal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ScreenPal<\/a> is a free software available to instructors as well as students. ScreenPal can also generate transcripts of your video using Google&#8217;s speech-to-text engine, and you have the ability to edit the transcripts for accuracy. A list of video hosting services is available in our Learning Technology Index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend using the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.citl.mun.ca\/technologyresources\/recording-content\/citl-video-uploader\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"9841\">CITL Video Uploader tool<\/a>, which allows you to host your created videos on Memorial servers.
