SUMMARY:Video Assignment as an Alternative Assessment Tool
DESCRIPTION:The Video Assignment tool\, developed by Bongo and available in Brightspace\, allows instructors to implement video-based assessments that evaluate students on speeches\, presentations\, and more. Apart from individual and group presentations\, instructors can also create question- and-answer assessments where students need to respond to questions that appear on the screen in real time. An added bonus is that the video assessments can be created and graded directly in Brightspace. \nIn this session\, we will review the types of assessments that can be created through the video assignment tool and go over the process of creating them in Brightspace. \nThis session will be hosted in Webex. You can join the session 10 minutes before the start time. It is recommended that you attend this session using one of the following internet browsers: Chrome\, Microsoft Edge or Firefox. \nRegistration is required for this event. \n>> CLICK HERE TO REGISTER <<

SUMMARY:Raising student awareness of transferrable skills (CITL Instructor Series)
DESCRIPTION:The presenters for this session are Dr. Rhonda Joy\, Associate Dean\, Faculty of Education; Dr. Jennifer Browne\, Director\, Student Life\, Dr. Jeannette Byrne; Associate Professor\, Faculty of Human Kinetics and Recreation; and Dr. Anne-Marie Sullivan\, Dean\, Faculty of Human Kinetics and Recreation \nThere are increasing expectations on higher educational institutions to ensure graduates have the skills required to successfully transition to the work place. Graduate preparedness is critical for students\, academia and industry. Evidence indicates students sometimes struggle with this transition\, not because they lack coveted transferrable skills but rather due to an awareness gap and inability to articulate skills gained throughout their education (Edge et al\, 2018). \nThe presenters will share an innovative approach implemented in winter 2024 to address this issue in two academic units. The sharing of methods\, results and a lively discussion will be facilitated. \nThis is a hybrid session (offered online and in-person) and it will be recorded. \nIf attending online\, it is recommended that you attend this session using one of the following internet browsers:  Chrome\, Microsoft Edge (Chromium) or Firefox. You can join the session 10 minutes before the start time.  \nIf attending in-person\, the session will be held in the TLX (ED 1001).  \nRegistration is required for this event. *CLICK HERE TO REGISTER*

SUMMARY:Rubrics in Brightspace
DESCRIPTION:Rubrics are an effective and efficient way to authentically assess student learning. Articulating specific criteria by which students will be assessed helps learners to prepare more thoughtful submissions that are aligned with your expectations. As an added bonus\, rubrics provide an objective and systematic method for grading work. Brightspace Rubrics tool offers a variety of rubric types and easy-to-modify templates to meet your specific assessment needs. \nThis session will provide an overview of the benefits and best practices in designing rubrics\, an introduction to rubrics in Brightspace\, along with step-by-step guidance on how to create and add a rubric to your assessment. \nThis session will be hosted in Webex. You can join the session 10 minutes before the start time. SUMMARY:Creating Secure Assessments with Advanced Quiz Settings
DESCRIPTION:Presenting each student in your course with a slightly different version of the same quiz deters academic dishonesty and thus increases the integrity of the assessment. \nThe Quizzes tool in Brightspace allows instructors to configure quizzes in a way that will present each student with a different version of the same quiz. In this session\, various methods of randomizing a Brightspace quiz will be illustrated such as shuffling questions and answer choices; creating a question pool and populating a quiz (or a section within it) with a random selection of questions from the pool; and more. The function of the ‘Question Library’ will also be discussed.
