SUMMARY:Assessments: Thinking Creatively (part of CITL Instructor Series)
DESCRIPTION:Building on the success of his MUNTLC22 conference session\, Dr. Chris Kozak\, Professor from the Department of Chemistry\, is back to share more about his experience with implementing Creative Chemistry Assignments with Art\, Music and Writing. Chemistry is a visual science of impressive experiments and models describing complex molecules\, structures and processes. It is also about storytelling – discoveries and facts come from intellectual journeys. While chemistry to some is exciting\, to others it is daunting and unfamiliar. Students of first year chemistry have a mixture of excitement and anticipation but also dread and feelings of being unprepared. To ease students into learning chemistry\, assignments were designed to use their creative skills and apply them to communicate chemistry using visual\, musical or written media. The student response to these Creative Chemistry Assignments will be presented. \nPresenter: Dr. Chris Kozak\, Professor\, Department of Chemistry\, Faculty of Science. \nRegistration is required for this event – please follow the link below to register: \n*REGISTER* \nThis is an online session and will be recorded. \nYou can join the session 10 minutes before the start time. It is recommended that you attend this session using one of the following internet browsers:  Chrome\, Microsoft Edge (Chromium) or Firefox.

SUMMARY:Ungrading: A Professor’s Perspective (part of CITL Instructor Series)
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, Dr. Jeannette Byrne\, Associate Professor in the School of Human Kinetics and Recreation\, will share her journey to the adoption of ungrading for the lab portion of HKR 4703 (Occupational Ergonomics and Sport Biomechanics). She will talk about why she adopted this approach to assessment\, how she did it\, what worked\, what didn’t\, and also share with you the journey she and her students took together during the semester as they both learned to do ‘ungrading’. This journey proved to be a transformational experience for Dr. Byrne’s students as they experienced\, many for the first time\, the freedom to “just learn”\, once the pressure of grades was removed. This will be an informal session\, with lots of time for questions\, discussion and learning! Come join us for this session and be part of the discussion around where (or if) ungrading fits in higher education. \nPresenter:  Dr. Jeannette Byrne\, Associate Professor\, School of Human Kinetics and Recreation. \nRegistration is required for this event – please follow the link below to register: \n*REGISTER* \nThis is an online session and will be recorded. \nYou can join the session 10 minutes before the start time.
