Setting up a Quiz and Security Settings
Quizzes are a popular tool for assessing student learning, however when taken online, academic integrity becomes a concern. While applying relevant security settings, instructors need to be careful not to hinder student learning. There is no way (in class or online) to guarantee that students aren’t cheating, but to maximize quiz security there are various quiz and availability settings to consider. During this session we will demonstrate how to set up a quiz and apply the appropriate security settings to improve the integrity of the exam.

The Brightspace Quiz tool has a variety of settings to help you ensure academic integrity and to provide accommodations to students with approved accommodation requests.

Question Library, Question Types and Respondus
This session is designed to provide an overview of the features of the Quiz Tool in Brightspace. The quiz tool offers a variety of question types ranging from multiple choice to essay questions. This session will explore these question types and discuss how you may convert your existing questions to another type. The session will also introduce the Question Library which allows you to organize your questions to create robust, fair, and randomized exams. Through the session you will be provided an introduction to Respondus – a quiz/question library builder tool that allows you to design/work with existing word versions of your exams and upload them into Brightspace for use, with some minor formatting requirements.

Using Video & Audio Evaluation in Your Course
Using video and audio submissions to evaluate student learning, allows students the option to demonstrate their creativity and understanding in a way that better suits their learning style. While learning online or remote, students may experience challenges with internet connectivity preventing them from fully engaging in a synchronous way. The opportunity to record audio or video submissions provides equal opportunity for student participation, regardless of technology limitations. This session provides an overview of an evaluation matrix that could be used to assist with assessing submissions, as well as information that an instructor can use to help guide students in the creation of media submissions.
